Nuggets are for Chicken

I remember attending a Ladies' Retreat with my sister years ago.  During one of the evening sessions, a woman prayed for our small group and asked God for a "nugget" of His truth to be impressed upon our hearts.  Later that evening, while we were getting ready for bed, my sister mentioned that prayer to me.  She said, "Risa, I do not need a nugget of God's truth.  I need a FEAST!"

Preach it, dear sister!  How many of us Christ followers are content with just a bit of God's truth, instead of partaking of it in deepening doses?  How many of us are content to just "park it" on the Bible's most simple truths instead of mining God's Word for its deep riches?  We continue to drink the milk of basic faith in Christ, when we need to be growing in our faith and wielding our steak knives for the meat of God's Word!  Scripture speaks to this as well...

"In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!" Hebrews 5:12

"Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?" 1 Corinthians 3:1-3

"Just a dab will do ya" doesn't cut it with God's Word, my friend!  I don't know about you, but I need every bit of His life-giving grace and truth in my life, to soothe every fear, calm every anxiety, guide me in every decision, and to impart joy in every mundane moment in my life.  I do not need just a "nugget" of God's Truth--no, I need it to be the very oxygen to my soul.  Perhaps that is what Christ meant when he spoke of abiding in Him--needing Him every moment of every day and drenching our souls in the depth of His truth.  He tells us to open wide our mouths so He can fill it (Psalm 81:10).  Let us not take dainty bites--let's throw open our mouths and gulp His Truth as if our very life depends upon it (because, in truth, it does!).

So let's leave "nuggets" for those over-processed morsels my kids love to devour with dipping sauce, and not for the Word of Almighty God, dear friend!

“How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? Repent at my rebuke!  Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings."   Proverbs 1:22-23
