Emmet's Speech

I just love Emmet Brickowski's speech in The Lego Movie.  Emmet is the ordinary protagonist, the "everyman" Lego who was selected as "the special" to fulfill the prophecy and save the entire Lego universe from being permanently frozen (aka superglued) by Lord Business.  He is called upon to give a speech to a room full of Master Builders.  It goes like this...

"I may not have a lot of experience fighting or leading or coming up with plans. Or having ideas in general. In fact, I'm not all that smart. I'm not, what you would call, a creative type. Plus, generally unskilled. Also, scared and cowardly. I know what you are thinking: he is the least qualified person to lead us. And you are right."

Oh boy--how I can relate!  Somehow, I am called by God to encourage other women (and perhaps a few men), educate and disciple my children, and spread the good news of Jesus Christ and yet....I am woefully sinful, weak, fearful, and feel utterly unprepared.  Perhaps you feel that way, too.

However, I am reminded of a promise Jesus spoke in Matthew 10:19-20...

"But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you."

Even when we feel (and know) that we have nothing to say...God will give us the words and speak through us.  What a promise!  Let us never forget that we do NOT need to be experts to be influencers!
