I just love the imagery found in Psalm 127 as it relates to our children....
"Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children of one's youth.
Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate." (v. 4-5)

I've read this passage several times and my take away message was that children are a good thing from the Lord and you are blessed to have as many as possible. However, I heard a sermon from my pastor, Scott Yirka, relating to the family a year or two ago that really enhanced the meaning of this Psalm for me! He just briefly touched on the image of the arrow and made a very casual remark about how our job as parents is to "aim" our children at the "target" and to let them fly. We cannot make their choices for them and control their lives, but we
can aim them as best we can toward God and the truths of His Word! And then, as we let them go (as they were never ours to start with...but the Lord's!) we can have peace knowing they are the Lord's heritage, a blessing and reward FROM Him...to bring honor and glory TO Him! What a wonderful word picture for us as parents with our little ones!
