In fact, after the latest blog rant I read over, I felt as though I must speak out, being both a Christian and a political conservative myself.
You see, we, as the Church, must firmly understand something, based on the authority of Scripture:
There is but ONE prescription to bring health and healing upon our nation,
and it has NOTHING to do with who is elected into office.
In fact, it has NOTHING to do with the baseline morality of its citizenry at large.
Instead, it has EVERYTHING to do with the spiritual health of the CHURCH.
See it with me, dear friend, in 2 Chronicles 7:14:
"If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (emphases mine)
Do you see it? The Church, God's people must do FOUR specific things...and then and ONLY then will God do THREE specific things...
God's people must:
- humble themselves
- pray
- seek God's face
- repent from their sin
And then God will:
- hear them
- forgive them
- heal their land
David understood this, too! As he tried to evade Saul's angry attempts to kill him, due to jealousy over his throne, David always credited GOD as His savior, never looking toward outward means for his deliverance! We see David pray to and repent and praise Almighty God, throughout the Psalms, which were penned during his time of hiding--we do NOT see him hone his skills to "evade thrown spears" or try to amass a following to usurp Saul's throne, or pursue any other outward means of self-preservation. NO, we see David humbly present Saul with cut pieces of his robe, showing him that although he was vulnerable and could have been murdered, David had chosen to spare his life and trust God's timing for the throne. In short, we see him embody four things...
Humility. Prayer. Seeking God and His will. Repentance.
And so, the results of the South Carolina primary, or any election result to come, shall not put us into a tail spin, as believers in Christ. We ought to know that our deliverance comes from the Lord, not in ANY political candidate! We ought to be reminded that the health of this nation is a direct reflection upon the health of her Church! No, we are not on the cusp of "disaster" for our nation with the 2016 Presidental election--in fact, it could be argued that that ship has long sailed! But we hope in an Almighty and sovereign God, whom we can humbly approach in prayer, with spiritual of fervancy and repentance, to lift up our nation and pray for her true healing.
