What new experiences lay on the horizon?
New hobbies?
Upcoming trips and travel destinations?
Books to read?
People to visit?
Like everyone else, there is much that I don't know about yet, nor could I ever anticipate.
But one thing I know for sure.
I'm hitching my hope to God, and not on anything, or anyone, else.
I was in the Psalms this morning, reflecting on this truth:
"For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us." Psalm 62:5-8
I will hope in nothing else.
I will glory in nothing else.
God is all I need.
"His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness." 2 Peter 1:3
When I fail--when I hope and glory in other things besides God (and I will, perhaps multiple times a day!)--I will not point fingers to others or to my circumstances. Instead, I will acknowledge that my sin and the flesh that resides within me is my greatest problem, and I will rely on God to help me bow to Him in confession, knowing He will always be faithful to forgive me.
What about you, dear friend?
What will you hitch your hope to this year? Will it be your accomplishments, your children, your spouse, your job, your salary, your weight loss, your New Year's resolutions, your new gym membership, the things you buy or make, your friends, your co-workers, your vacations?...(the list could go on and on!)
Or will you endeavor to place your hope in God, and glory in Him alone?
Oh, may He grow us and guide us for His glory in 2019!
