Have you noticed that in every Children's Bible, Samson is always depicted like this?
Even adult resources and movies show Samson like this:
The Scriptures say that the Philistines were always wondering about the source of Samson's great strength. In fact, Samson's Philistine lover Delilah often asked him the source of his strength and Samson would not tell her the truth. Instead, he would trick her into thinking his strength would leave him if he was bound with fresh bowstrings, new ropes, etc. Finally, Delilah wore him down until Samson finally told her that if he cut his hair, his strength would leave him. And that is exactly what she did once he fell asleep and the Philistines came and captured him, holding him in captivity until he took his life along with many of the Philistine people in the temple (Judges 16).
So my simple question is this. If YOU were to look at Samson, as he is frequently depicted in movies and pictures, would you wonder what made him so strong?
So...maybe, just maybe...Samson looked like an ordinary person. No bulging muscles. No gigantic stature. Just an average person. Hmm...deep thought...
