A Peek Behind the Veil

I love it when the Lord pulls back the curtain a bit and gives me a glimpse inside the inner-workings of my child's heart.

Sometimes, it is a glimpse into their sinfulness, which at first leads me to despair, but then serves to remind me to put all my hope and faith in Christ and the work only He can do in their hearts.

Sometimes, it is a glimpse into how He is doing that transformative work, this very moment, amongst the chaos and the mess.

I found this discarded list, pictured above, in our family room the other day, after a week full of bouts of willfulness, tears, and time outs (for both parent AND child, I might add--a very common occurrence around here when homeschool starts back up!).

Nearing the trash can with it, I paused a moment to look it over before balling it up in my hand.

I am so glad I did.

Like the time God pulled back the veil between the supernatural and physical realms and allowed Elisha and his friend to see the heavenly army of chariots of fire protecting them (see 2 Kings 6:15-17), I saw a bit of how God is at work in my child's heart...

Prompting her to pray to God.
Calling her to love other people.
Encouraging her to pray for others.
Wooing her to trust in God.
And even reminding her to connect with others through a written word.

I trust that my daughter truly sees these things modeled and lived out in front of her, albeit imperfectly most times, and that she is growing stronger roots of faith each day.

It is little treasures like this that give me pause...and praise...and provide an encouragement to press on.

So, I'd love to ask you, dear friend: In what area of life do you need to be encouraged this week?  Will you dare to ask God to show you a glimpse of the supernatural reality of the situation you face today?

I pray that you would, and that through it, you would be encouraged.  May we never forget that God is ALWAYS at work around us and in our children...for our good and for His glory!

"And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."  Philippians 1:6

  1. Risa, I love that you got this sweet encouragement, especially during a week that was fraught with transition. You are doing a great job, my friend.
